Just What Is a Hugger Fan Anyway??

Of all the names that come into play in a home construction or renovation project, the “hugger fan” has got to be one of the craziest and most confusing. Is it a fan the people use to cool them off while they're hugging in front of it? Wrong! Would you believe that a hugger fan is simply a ceiling fan that has been installed with minimum space between it and the ceiling. It hugs the ceiling!

The Simple Reason For Hugger Fans Is Safety

The simple reason that huger fans are installed is for safety. You see the minimum accepted headroom space for any ceiling fan is generally accepted to be seven feet. Even then, with this much clearance space, anyone approaching six feet in height can expect an unpleasant surprise of they should even raise their arms while standing under the fan.

Hey! Can you folks all do that under the hugger fan please!!!!

How To Tell a Hugger Fan When You See One

Ceiling fans installed over beds and tables tend to present less of a clearance problem for obvious reasons. However; places like bedrooms where people will be raising their arms when changing clothes are typically rooms that will see the use of hugger fans. So just how can you tell a hugger fan when you see one? Thats simple as they all tend to not have down-rods. However; in rooms with tall ceilings, a fan with a short down-rod installed up close to the ceiling may still be referred to as a hugger fan.
